Major quality trait analysis and QTL detection in hexaploid wheat in humid rain-fed agriculture

Authors: H.M. Li, Z.X. Tang, H.Q. Zhang, B.J. Yan and Z.L. Ren

Humid rain-fed agriculture is a special environment for wheat (Triticum aestivum) culture that tends to negatively affect wheat yield and quality. To identify quality characters of wheat in a humid environment, we conducted quality analysis and quantitative trait loci (QTL) detection in a recombinant inbred line whose parent had a high level of quality fo.. Analysis of the beta-globin gene in DNA of suspected thalassemic great apes

Authors: J. Vuch, M.S. Siori, M.P. Bigatti, L. Segat, G. De Fabrizio and S. Crovella

DNA was recovered from teeth of 2 great ape skeletons, Pan troglodytes (Ptr) and Pongo pygmaeus (Ppy), belonging to a 19th-century zoological collection. The skeletons presented morphological alterations possibly associated with β-thalassemia: Ptr had deformation of the calvaria and oro-maxillo-facial bones with porotic hyperostosis and extend.. Association between IL-1RN gene polymorphisms and susceptibility to ankylosing spondylitis: a large Human Genome Epidemiology review and meta-analysis

Authors: G.X. Jin, J.Z. Duan, W.L. Guo, L. Li, S.Q. Cui and H. Wang

We made a Human Genome Epidemiology review and meta-analysis to examine a possible association between interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RN) polymorphisms and susceptibility to ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Studies of IL-1RN polymorphisms and susceptibility to AS were found by searching the Pubmed, Cochrane library, Embase, Web of Science, Springerlin.. Read More»

Bicluster and regulatory network analysis of differentially expressed genes in adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma

Authors: L. Li, J. Zhu, S.-X. Guo and Y. Deng

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma (AC) are the major histological types of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Although differences in molecular, histological, and clinical characteristics have been reported for both subtypes, no specific therapy exists thus far. The aim of this analysis was to identify potential therapeutic target genes th.. Read More»

A novel and efficient strategy for practical identification of tomato (Solanum lycopersicon) varieties using modified RAPD fingerprints

Authors: N.K. Korir, X.Y. Li, X.P. Leng, Z. Wu, C. Wang and J.G. Fang

Tomato breeding and variety development have led to the generation of a large number of varieties in many countries worldwide. This has created a growing and urgent need for an improved strategy for genotyping and identification since the traditional methods based on phenotype are growing unreliable. DNA markers could provide distinct benefits in tomato v.. Read More»

Influence of the XbaI polymorphism in the estrogen receptor-± gene on human spermatogenic defects

Authors: J. Meng, X. Mu and Y.M. Wang

Polymorphisms of estrogen receptor (ER) genes have been implicated in male infertility, but studies of this association have produced conflicting results. The present study was conducted to examine whether polymorphisms within the ERα and ERβ genes are susceptibility factors for human male idiopathic infertility in Chinese men. We investigated .. Increased androgen receptor messenger RNA in frontal-parietal hair follicles of women with androgenetic alopecia

Authors: F. Richeti, C. Kochi, M.N. Rocha, C. SantâAnna Corrªa, R. Lazzarini, R.M. Guazzelli, R.F. Mendon§a, M.R. Melo and C.A. Longui

Normal testosterone levels are frequently observed in women with androgenetic alopecia (AGA), suggesting the involvement of androgen sensitivity in this condition. Androgen sensitivity is related to androgen receptor (AR) messenger RNA (mRNA) production in hair follicles and is negatively related to the number of CAG repeats present in exon 1 of the AR ge.. Construction of a primary DNA fingerprint database for cotton cultivars

Authors: Y.C. Zhang, M. Kuang, W.H. Yang, H.X. Xu, D.Y. Zhou, Y.Q. Wang, X.A. Feng, C. Su and F. Wang

Forty core primers were used to construct a DNA fingerprint database of 132 cotton species based on multiplex fluorescence detection technology. A high first successful ratio of 99.04% was demonstrated with tetraplex polymerase chain reaction. Forty primer pairs amplified a total of 262 genotypes among 132 species, with an average of 6.55 per primer and v.. Read More»
