Isolation and characterization of twenty-three microsatellite loci for the black rockfish, Sebastes schlegelii

Twenty-three polymorphic microsatellite loci were developed from the black rockfish, Sebastes schlegelii, with an enriched partial genomic library by magnetic beads and polymorphism of these loci was assessed in 32 individuals from a wild population. The loci yielded 2-19 alleles per locus, the observed, expected heterozygosity and polymorphic information content ra.. Read More»

Development and characterization of microsatellite loci in Brasenia schreberi (Cabombaceae) based on the next-generation sequencing

    H. Liu, Z.C. Long, L.N. Li, Q.F. Wang, J.M. Chen and K. Liao

To understand genetic variability of the endangered aquatic herb Brasenia schreberi (Cabombaceae), we describe 31 microsatellite markers obtained using next-generation sequencing. A total of 24 individuals from the population of Jackson Lake, USA, were genotyped for each marker. Twenty-eight markers were polymorphic. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 1 to .. Fine-scale spatial genetic structure of an endangered marsh herb, Caldesia grandis (Alismataceae)

    X.-L. Yue, J.-M. Chen, Y.-H. Guo and Q.-F. Wang2

The endangered marsh herb, Caldesia grandis, is native to China. We investigated the spatial structure of the genetic variation of three populations of C. grandis using RAPD markers and spatial autocorrelation analysis, based on the method of equal distance interval. A total of 157 individuals were sampled from four patches collected from the region of Hunan and Yunnan Provinces, China. Among t.. Read More»

Serum levels of S-100β correlate with the clinical status and severity of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy in neonates

    L.H. Shi, Y. Zhou, M.F. Guo, J.S. Liu, C.X. Li, G.F. Wang, W. Liu and L. Tian

The clinical significance of serum S-100β levels in neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), as a reference index to assess HIE severity, was evaluated in this study. On the basis of our strict inclusion and exclusion criteria, relevant high-quality case-control studies reporting the association between HIE and S-100β protein were selected from.. Read More»

Ovine prion protein genotype frequencies in northwestern China

    C.-L. Zhao, R. Wu, L. Liu, F.-D. Li, X.-L. Zhang, C. Wang, F. Wang, X.-L. Diao, H.-W. Guan, X. Wang and L. Zhou

Anti-scrapie breeding programs have been initiated to screen for scrapie-resistant sheep based on ovine prion protein gene (PRNP) genotypes at codons 136, 154 and 171 in many countries, especially European Union member states. However, investigation of sheep PRNP genotypes is limited in China, despite the large number of sheep breeds. We analyzed 432 sheep of five d.. Read More»

Development and characterization of 60 microsatellite markers in the abalone Haliotis diversicolor

    Y. Wang, F. Wang, Y.H. Shi, Z.F. Gu, A.M. Wang

The abalone, Haliotis diversicolor, is one of the most important mariculture species in southern China. We developed 60 new polymorphic microsatellite markers for H. diversicolor and characterized them in 30 individuals from a cultured population in Sanya, China. All 60 markers were found to be polymorphic. The number of alleles ranged from two to nine per locus, wi.. Read More»

Genome-wide multilocus analysis of intraspecific differentiation in Oryza rufipogon Griff. from China and the influence of introgression from O. sativa L.

    Y.B. Dong, F. Li, X.W. Pei, F. Wang, Q.H. Yuan, H.J. Wu, S.R. Jia, Y.F. Peng

Twenty-five populations of Oryza rufipogon from China and 144 cultivars of Oryza sativa were selected for this study. Based on the DNA fragment of Ehd1-4 and subspecies-specific sequence-tagged site markers in different chromosomes, intraspecific differentiation in O. rufipogon from China was analyzed. The introgression from O. sativa to O. rufipogon was also analyz.. Read More»

RAPD-based genetic diversities and correlation with morphological traits in Camellia (Theaceae) cultivars in China

    X.F. Wang, H.Y. Zheng, W.H. Zheng, C.Q. Ao, H.Y. Jin, L.H. Zhao, N. Li and L.R. Jia

Camellia is an economically important ornamental plant that has many uses, such as in beverages, foods and medicines. We examined 15 Camellia cultivars in Wenzhou, China, using RAPD markers and measurements of three traits (petal color, flower diameter, blooming period). PCR amplification with 15 random primers produced 1935 bands, observed at 88 amplification loci;.. Read More»

Development of microsatellite markers in Hagenia abyssinica (Bruce) J.F. Gmel, an endangered tropical tree of eastern Africa, using next-generation sequencing

    A.W. Gichira, Z.C. Long, G.W. Hu, R.W. Gituru, Q.F. Wang and J.M. Chen

Hagenia abyssinica (Bruce) J.F. Gmel is an endangered tree species endemic to the high mountains of tropical Africa. We used Illumina paired-end technology to sequence its nuclear genome, aiming at creating the first genomic data library and developing the first set of genomic microsatellites. Seventeen microsatellite markers were validated in 24 individuals. The average number of alleles per l.. Read More»

Construction of a primary DNA fingerprint database for cotton cultivars

    Y.C. Zhang, M. Kuang, W.H. Yang, H.X. Xu, D.Y. Zhou, Y.Q. Wang, X.A. Feng, C. Su and F. Wang

Forty core primers were used to construct a DNA fingerprint database of 132 cotton species based on multiplex fluorescence detection technology. A high first successful ratio of 99.04% was demonstrated with tetraplex polymerase chain reaction. Forty primer pairs amplified a total of 262 genotypes among 132 species, with an average of 6.55 per primer and values of polymorphism information conten.. Read More»
