Isolation and characterization of twenty-three microsatellite loci for the black rockfish, Sebastes schlegelii

Twenty-three polymorphic microsatellite loci were developed from the black rockfish, Sebastes schlegelii, with an enriched partial genomic library by magnetic beads and polymorphism of these loci was assessed in 32 individuals from a wild population. The loci yielded 2-19 alleles per locus, the observed, expected heterozygosity and polymorphic information content ra.. Read More»

Polymorphic microsatellite loci developed from the Hong Kong oyster (Crassostrea hongkongensis)

    H.T. Ma, S. Xiao, Y. Zhang, X.M. Li, J. Li and Z.N. Yu

Forty polymorphic microsatellite loci were developed from Crassostrea hongkongensis using an enriched partial genomic library with magnetic beads. The polymorphism of these loci was assessed in 30 individuals from a wild population. The allele number of the polymorphic markers ranged from 2 to 13, with an average of 5.8 per locus. The polymorphism information conten.. Read More»

Effect of dehydroepiandrosterone treatment on hormone levels and antioxidant parameters in aged rats

    F.J. Yin, J. Kang, N.N. Han and H.T. Ma

The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effect of chronic dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) administration on steroid hormones and antioxidant parameters in aged rats. To this end, three groups of Sprague-Dawley rats were compared: young (3 months of age) untreated; aged (19 months old) untreated; and aged rats treated with 20 mg/kg DHEA for 8 weeks. Major organs of aged rats in the untrea.. Read More»
