Analysis of genetic diversity and population structure of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) from China and Malaysia based on species-specific simple sequence repeat markers

Authors: L.X. Zhou, Y. Xiao, W. Xia and Y.D. Yang

Genetic diversity and patterns of population structure of the 94 oil palm lines were investigated using species-specific simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. We designed primers for 63 SSR loci based on their flanking sequences and conducted amplification in 94 oil palm DNA samples. The amplification result showed that a rela.. Read More»

Characterization and expression of DDX6 during gametogenesis in the Chinese mitten crab Eriocheir sinensis

Authors: Q. Li, Y.L. Wang, J. Xie, W.J. Sun, M. Zhu, L. He and Q. Wang

DDX6 belongs to a family of DEAD-box RNA helicases, which are RNA splicing proteins that ensure the correct folding and structure of mature RNA. Gametogenesis requires the participation of many kinds of RNA. To explore its functions during Eriocheir sinensis gametogenesis, we cloned a full-length DDX6 cDNA sequence from E. sinensis (Es-DDX6) which contain.. Read More»

New cytogenetic aberrations found in a case of aggressive retinoblastoma

Authors: J.E.X.S. Barros, E.M. Soares-Ventura, N. Santos, B.A.S. Amaral, F.M. Oliveira, R.S. Vera Cruz, V.L.L. Morais, T.J. Marques-Salles and M.T.C. Muniz

We describe a case of retinoblastoma with an atypical presentation and previously unreported cytogenetic aberrations. A 19-month-old girl with left intraocular retinoblastoma was treated with enucleation and chemotherapy. The disease showed aggressive evolution within a short period between diagnosis and relapse. Eight months .. Read More»

Analysis of genetic diversity of salt-tolerant alfalfa germplasms

Authors: J. Jiang, B.L. Yang, T. Xia, S.M. Yu, Y.N. Wu, H. Jin and J.R. Li

Random amplified polymorphic DNA technology was used to analyze the genetic diversity of 25 salt-tolerant alfalfa varieties using 30 different primers. Results showed that the percentage of polymorphic loci between single-plant DNA was 81.52%, and that between mixed DNA of various varieties was 61.65%. Compared to the mixed DNA samples, single-plant DNA s.. Read More»

Isolation and characterization of microsatellite DNA loci from the peanut worm, Sipunculus nudus

Authors: Q.H. Wang, Y.S. Guo, Z.D. Wang, X.D. Du and Y.W. Deng

Sipunculus nudus, the peanut worm, is the best known species in its genus. This unsegmented subtidal marine worm is consumed in some parts of Asia and is also used as fish bait. We found 20 microsatellite DNA markers for S. nudus. The number of alleles per polymorphic locus ranged from two to seven in a sample of 39 individual.. Read More»

Isolation of new polymorphic microsatellite markers from the marbled rockfish Sebastiscus marmoratus

Authors: H.W. Deng, Z.B. Li, G. Dai, Y. Yuan, Y.F. Ning, J.B. Shangguan and Y.S. Huang

The marbled rockfish, Sebastiscus marmoratus, is an important commercially near-shore fish that inhabits the beach rocky bottom from Japan to the South China Sea. Eleven polymorphic microsatellite loci were developed from S. marmoratus and were used to identify polymorphisms in 30 samples from a wild population. The allele locus number ranged from 2 to 7. Po.. Analysis of the genetic diversity of super sweet corn inbred lines using SSR and SSAP markers

Authors: W.R. Ko1*, K.J. Sa1*, N.S. Roy3, H.-J. Choi2 and J.K. Lee1

In this study, we compared the efficiency of simple sequence repeat (SSR) and sequence specific amplified polymorphism (SSAP) markers for analyzing genetic diversity, genetic relationships, and population structure of 87 super sweet corn inbred lines from different origins. SSR markers showed higher average gene diversity and Shannon’s information i.. Read More»

Cloning, expression analysis and sequence prediction of the CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein alpha gene of Qinchuan cattle

Authors: H. Wang, L.S. Zan, H.B. Wang, C. Gong and C.Z. Fu

CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein alpha (C/EBPα) is an essential transcription factor, regulating the differentiation of adipocytes. We cloned the complete open reading frame of C/EBPα gene of Qinchuan cattle and analyzed its protein structures and expression profile in 15 tissues via DNA cloning, sequencing and RT-PC.. Construction and analysis of a suppression subtractive hybridization library of regeneration-related genes in soybean

Authors: J. Sun, J. Li, M. Liu, B.B. Zhang, D.M. Li, M. Wang, C. Zhang,W.B. Li, A.Y. Su and X.X. Wu

The development of a genetic transformation system is needed to address the problem of the low efficiency associated with soybean regeneration. To contribute to the enhancement of the soybean regenerative capacity, we explored the developmental mechanisms of soybean regeneration at the molecular level using a suppression subtractive hybridization cDNA librar.. TGF-²1 polymorphism 509 C>T is associated with an increased risk for hepatocellular carcinoma in HCV-infected patients

Authors: J. Ma, Y.C. Liu, Y. Fang, Y. Cao and Z.L. Liu

Transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1), a member of the transforming growth factor beta family, functions as a multi-functional cytokine and plays a key role in cellular growth, proliferation, and differentiation. The 509 C/T polymorphism in the TGF-β1 gene has been implicated in the outcome of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection; however, lit.. Read More»
